There are several fascinating stories and facts related to the game.

The following are 7 funny and interesting facts about this popular game:

  1. The beast’s number – Roulette has been generally nicknamed “The Devil’s Game”. You may have heard of it before but can’t figure out why. Well, this is because, regardless of the roulette variant, when all the numbers appearing on the roulette’s wheel are summed up, they total 666.
  2. Numbers 17 & 22 – Are you aware that 17 is the number that is most commonly played on the roulette wheel? Apart from the number being centrally positioned on the table, it is because it is thought to be James Bond’s – that is, 007’s favourite number, and also the one he actually plays. Number 22 is also known to be another number that is popular among roulette players.
  3. Red or black– In addition to zero, the odds are always 50/50. The fact that a black number hit does not necessarily imply that the next spin will result in red. In reality, the odds of hitting the same colour 10 times in a row, is merely 1 in 1024. It was in Bristol, England, however, where the biggest record was set, with the same colour being hit consecutively. Red hit 36 times in a row!
  4. Drinks at the table? No please – At the roulette table, drinks are a no-no, although having your drinks with you while playing other casino games such as baccarat and blackjack at the table is considered appropriate. This is why you may have to wait and enjoy a complimentary drink once you have finished playing. However, when it comes to playing roulette online, the rules are a bit more lenient. You can put your drink anywhere you want.
  5. “California Roulette” – Actually, California has several gambling laws. Among the laws is that the only device allowed to produce win results is a deck of cards. As the wheel is the gadget used in roulette, this could indeed make the game illegitimate in California. Clever casinos, however, have devised a way to circumvent the law by actually offering the “California Roulette”, a game that is played using cards in place of a revolving wheel and a ball. While the device used to generate results is the only difference, the game’s odds and payouts are just the same as roulette.
  6. The guy who dared to bet everything and won – An Englishman by the name Ashley Revell sold everything he owned and famously bet the whole $135,000 resulting cash at Plaza Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas one roulette spin. In what most gamblers would – at best – consider to be a wild move, he placed all that he had on red and surprisingly won. After he doubled his money, he is reported to have used his winnings to establish an online poker company known as Poker UTD, which, as luck would have it, shut down in 2012.
  7. Roly-Poly Inspiration – “Roulette” is a word adopted from the French word “little wheel”. The game of roulette is believed to have been inspired by Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, and scientist who, way back in 1657, formulated the mathematics field of probability, as well as created a device akin to the roulette wheel. But interesting enough, of late, it has been actually believed that roulette might have been inspired by a 17th century Englishman named Roly Poly.
